GP Pharm joins ONCOLOGICA

GP Pharm, a Spanish biopharmaceutical company, has joined “Oncológica” project which has an initial capital investment of 17,4 million euros, Science Ministry contributes with half of the amount through CENIT program. This programs highlights both vertical and integrated research for cancer; from diagnostic to the treatment, emphasizing on the patient, diagnostic-prognosis and selective treatment as main pillars on development.

 

“Oncológica” is a consortium consisting of different companies such as Pharmamar, Geadic Biotech, Faes Farma, Dominion Pharmakine, NeoCodex, Genomica, India Laboratorios Biomedical Diagnostics, Cellerix and also around twenty different Public R&D Centres for Cancer. Such research will allow GP-Pharm and the other partners, to achieve a higher efficacy on conventional treatments as well as decrease less side effects suffered by patients with cancer.

 

Project development

 

The pharmaceutical company and public centres involved have decided to split the work in 4 different sections because of the complexity of the project. A Section will be focussed in biomarkers for diagnosis and prognosis allowing to detect and to predict different kind of cancers.  B Section will study predictive biomarkers for response against drugs (personalized therapies). C Section will develop specific treatments for different tumours (drug targeting) using biomarkers directing drugs selectively towards tumoral cells. Last section, D Section, will face technological platforms development to allow dig in and expand personalized therapies to be used in as wide range tumours types as possible.
