GP Pharm receives 20 million euros investment, the biggest amount granted this year to the Spanish b

GP Pharm the leading Spanish biopharmaceutical company developing controlled delivery sistems for injectable formulations has engaged 11 research and development projects in oncology, central nervous system and cardiovascular diseases
Caixa Catalunya has granted the company with a 20 million euros syndicated loan to be dedicated for R&D and implementation projects within the medical and pharmaceutical biotechnological sector. It represents the biggest amount granted this year in the sector.
GP Pharm is the pharmaceutical company of the Lipotec Group with Head quarters sited in Gavà and manufacturing facilities located in Sant Quintí de Mediona (Barcelona. Its business model combines research and development activities based in technological platforms patented (liposomes and microsferes) along with commercialization and manufacturing activities of drug products for injection focused in specific therapeutic areas, especially in oncology.
Particularly, resources granted with this investment operation will allow GP Pharm complete its ambicious R&D plan Developer through out 11 projects within the oncological (prostatic cancer, breast cancer, ovarian cancer and carcinoid syndrome), central nervous system and cardiovascular diseases
In this case the investment operation granted to GP Pharm is structured by Caixa Catalunya, who assumes also a rol as Operation Agent, and incluyes sindicated participation from Institut Català de Finances (ICF), Instituto de Crédito Oficial, Banco Sabadell, Bancaza, Caixa Catalunya itself as well as own GP Pharm’s investors contribution. Public organizations contribute with 65% of the funds, while remaining 35% comes from private contributions (especially financial institutions)
About GP Pharm
Founded in 2000, GP Pharm has in Sant Quintí de Mediona (Alt Penedès) the only manufacturing site in Spain able to produce sterile microspheres and liposome's and one the few independent facilities in Europe. Additionally GP Pharm owns a R&D laboratory sited in Gavà (Barcelona) where works for own projects and projects developed for international biotech companies.
Currently, the company is participated in a 57% for founders of the Lipotec Group, a 16% for the Italian pharmaceutical laboratory, Sigma Tau, and the rest belongs to private investors.
GP Pharm has 82 employees and a turnover in 2008 of 2.5 million euros. It’s projections for 2009 is 6 million euros. This year GP Pharm is focussed on its own products development and international expansion.
